Forest Conservation Division
Responsible for the study of the forest in its natural form through in-situ as well as ex-situ conservation. In-situ cultivation involves multidisciplinary studies ranging from Taxonomy, Ecology, ethnobotany, Silviculture, genetics, physiology, soils, through socio – economics as management tools for the forests.
Ex-situ conservation – Is represented in the arboretum, botanical garden and herbarium as rescue measure for some plants.
Biodiversity – The division offers service in biodiversity study especially in the areas of plant Taxonomy (inventory), Ethnobotany and ecology. The herbarium, one of the biggest in West Africa is used for research by local and foreign scientists.
