INTRODUCTION
The North East Arid Zone Research Station (NEARS) Damasak is one of the Ten Research outstations of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria which was established in the year 2003 to carry out research into the forestry needs of the North East Arid Zone of Nigeria.

The mandates of the station are as follows:
